Music by the Measure

Experience the Bowery Trio through both sound and flavor during an intimate concert pairing chamber music with three original tasting cocktails.

Throughout the 60-minute performance, the trio will introduce selected works for clarinet, cello and piano. Each selection will be accompanied by a cocktail created to reflect the music’s character—its mood, rhythm, cultural origins or place in history. A brief introduction to each pairing will invite guests to consider how flavor, aroma and texture can echo the qualities heard in the music.

The evening begins with a 30-minute welcome reception and passed hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 PM. Music by the Measure begins at 7:00 PM, followed by an optional seated dinner with the musicians at 8:00 PM.

Each cocktail will be served as a carefully measured tasting pour. Zero-proof pairings will be available with advance notice.

Mark Allen Jr.

Clarinetist Mark Allen Jr. is an award-winning soloist, chamber musician, and member of the United States Air Force Band of the West. A prizewinner in the American Prize, American Protégé, and Paris Music competitions, he made his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2020. His performances have taken him to the Hollywood Bowl, Chicago’s Symphony Center, Atlanta Symphony Hall, and other distinguished venues. Mark can also be heard on the soundtracks of two Spike Lee projects, Uber Presents and Pass Over. He holds degrees in music performance from Roosevelt University and New York University and is a co-founder of Bowery Trio.

Esther Rothwell

Cellist Esther Rothwell is a member of the Dallas Opera Orchestra and a former Rosemary and David Good Fellow with the Minnesota Orchestra. She has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Des Moines Metro Opera, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and National Repertory Orchestra, appearing at venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. A devoted chamber musician and educator, Esther co-founded Bowery Trio in 2019 and serves on the adjunct cello faculty at Dallas College’s North Lake Campus. She earned her master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory.

Allison Wang

Taiwan-born pianist Allison Wang has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, including appearances at Carnegie Hall and in Finland, Italy, Austria, and Taiwan. Her honors include prizes from the Paris Music Competition, American Protégé International Competition, and Cremona International Music Academy String and Piano Competition, as well as scholarships from the American Opera Society of Chicago and the Jerome and Elaine Nerenberg Foundation. Allison is a co-founder of Bowery Trio and W. 4th Duo, serves on the piano faculty at Metropolitan State University of Denver, and founded Fun with Keys Piano Studio. She holds degrees from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts and the Manhattan School of Music.
