Built in 1929, the historic Roosevelt Library is a beautifully preserved example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. Located just minutes from downtown San Antonio and directly across from the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site, this elegant space offers a distinctive blend of charm, history, and modern sophistication.
Originally known as the Roosevelt Park Branch Library and named in honor of Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, the building served the community until 1968. In 2013, it underwent a thoughtful renovation designed to preserve its most captivating original features—including a grand working fireplace and hand-painted wood beams in the entry foyer—while transforming it into a vibrant, multi-functional venue.
In many ways, the Roosevelt Library is two venues in one. The main level retains its original 1920s Spanish Colonial character and features a stunning Grand Hall with soaring 15-foot ceilings and a large wood-burning fireplace. This space can accommodate up to 80 seated guests, with the entire indoor venue holding up to 300. Just outside, the expansive South Lawn—shaded by mature trees and complete with a charming café—offers additional space for up to 300 more guests.
The lower level reveals a modern contrast, with polished concrete floors, unpainted wood doors, and sleek, contemporary furnishings. This floor includes a spacious gallery ideal for dancing, complete with a stage for a DJ or live band. The adjacent lounge, with its craft cocktail bar, features backlit fabric walls and original artwork, creating a sophisticated yet inviting ambiance. The Billiard Room adds another layer of elegance with Venetian-style mirrors and Parisian sconces.
Throughout both levels, guests will discover thoughtfully curated collections and unique artifacts that celebrate the building’s storied past while embracing its exciting new purpose. Today, the Roosevelt Library is more than a historic landmark—it’s a one-of-a-kind destination for gatherings, celebrations, and exploration.
